The Story

Welcome to Kennel Askibo

Here is a little information about us. We are a married couple which have been working with dogs for many years. Our interest for dogs started because I  Jørvil, always have loved animals. As a little girl, I always came home with a lot of different kinds of animals. My first dog was a Collie, and his name was “King”. I lived not very far from my grandparents, and they had a lot of dogs. Every kind from hunting-dogs to German Shepard and Doberman.

As years went by, I met my husband, Gunnar. He had grown up with dogs around him as well, “Dwarf –poodles”. In this world of dogs, Gunnar and I, gave birth to our son Rune. He is very fond of dogs too. When Rune was old enough, we found out that we wanted to get him a dog, and then we chose a Golden Retriever. His name was “Lobo”. But unfortunately he was ill. Lobo reached the age of 7 months. We still wanted Rune to have a dog, since he is a only child, we thought it would be great for him to have the responsibility for an animal. This time he wanted another kind of dog, so we searched in many different dog-books.

Then we saw the St. Bernhard. We thought it could be an exciting breed. After some weeks, Rune, Gunnar, and I, were owners of a cute little St. Bernhard puppy. His name was St. Leocoll`s N- Juno. He developed to be the world`s kindest dog. We completed two training-sessions with him, because people didn`t think he could manage that. Juno and we succeeded to get NKK`s  medal in Bronze. When June reached the age of 2 years, we thought it was about time to get ourselves a second dog. One day we noticed an add in the newspaper which said : “ Mini -schnauzers for sale “. We thought that was interesting, so we drove to Trondheim, to take a look. There we bought our first schnauzer, on Stjernedvergen`s kennel.

We gave him the name “Walkie” , and along with him the interest for schnauzers appeared. We could use Walkie for all kinds of things, obedience, agility and tracking. Besides he is very social, and has nerves of steel. When Juno reached the age of 8, he got lung-cancer. We decided to get ourselves a new dog with a large size. We chose a Giant Schnauzer. We were so lucky to get to buy “Chiefskoira's Ambros”. Ambros and Juno went so well together the last few months, and we see a lot of Juno`s qualitys in Ambros. It is said that Male-Giant are a bit strict. We have never seen such things in our Ambros. He has to be a giant schnauzer with a St. Bernhard`s temper and the way to be.

Ambros is a real “Sweetheart”. We use him for everything. Exhibitions, obedience, agility, a lot of pulling and packing. At the age of 2, he started to pull children with down syndrom, sitting on wagons. Which both he and the children enjoy very much. He is very careful and tender when he lets them say hello to him.

We have also been owners of 2 standard – schnauzers. Nuch Wow-wow`s Master Male (Kibo), and Wow-wow`s Unique Chance (Mozart). Soon we want to get another standard-schnauzer. A very fun dog, with a lot of speed and excitement.

After some time with discussions we decided to get ourselves a Giant,-bitch. We have always had interest for male-dogs, but now we wanted to try a bitch. In April 2000 we travelled to Southern-Norway, to Kennel Dancimera`s, where a little cute bitch was waiting for us. We gave her the beautiful name “Askepott” (as in Cinderella). We don`t know if it is because of her name, but Askepott charms almost everybody she meets. She is always obliging to both children and adults. Clever in both agility and obedience. We could not have got a better dog at home. Calm and kind, like the other two in the flock. Sometimes it is like we forget that we have dogs in the house. They are so quiet and cosy. But when they are out in the woods, it is the opposite. Full speed all the time. We take a walk in the forest with them every single day so they can run, chase each other and get tired.

People we meet on different exhibitions often ask us if we are not thinking about starting breeding. We have thought of it, but it was not the main reason why we started working with dogs. But today, when we look at the possibilities we got, and the great dogs, it`s getting more and more tempting. We actually got four healthy and exhibition-prized dogs of a great family.

So with that in mind we hope we have succeeded reaching our goal. Which is to have got some healthy, cosy family-dogs, which is a pleasure and joy to own. We hope that you, puppy-buyers, will get as much joy and happiness of your Giant Schnauzer, as we have got from ours.

  Best regards from
